Lindsay's afternoon assignments just might work...

A use of Lindsay’s “Afternoon Assignments” led to me to attempt to create a piece using the implied polyphony seen in the Bach Chaconne’s and other sources. The use of a single line across both hands for majority of the piece has a very clear implied harmony. Using arpeggios may be considered cheating when it comes to a true integration of ‘implied’ but the idea is very much alive in using one line to create harmony.

Alongside the use of implied harmony, the lines do create fascinating rhythms not in themselves but in their number of repetitions. Many harmonic structures are changed before reaching what would be a logical conclusion by the standards of western art music.
